American Serviceman with Captured Japanese Bicycle on Kwajalein Beach, 1944
An American serviceman poses with a captured Japanese bicycle on the beach at Kwajalein Atoll during the 1944 campaign to seize the Marshall Islands. Behind him, amphibious tractors and landing craft crowd the lagoon, evidence of the massive logistical effort required to supply front-line troops. Photographs of soldiers with captured enemy equipment were common mementos of the island-hopping campaign. Project: 218539
