Captured German Railway Gun on Rail Carriage, End of WWII, Germany
A massive German railway gun sits abandoned on its rail carriage at the close of World War II. Weapons of this type, some capable of firing shells weighing hundreds of kilograms over great distances, represented the pinnacle of heavy artillery engineering but were increasingly vulnerable to Allied air power by the war's end. Captured examples like this one were documented and often scrapped or shipped abroad for study. Project: 218512
