USS Yorktown at Anchor in Harbor, Distant View, 35mm Color Slide
This faded color slide captures a distant view of an aircraft carrier, believed to be USS Yorktown, riding at anchor in a harbor. Yorktown, an Essex-class carrier, served in the Pacific during World War II and later in Cold War-era fleet operations, including service as an anti-submarine warfare carrier and as a recovery ship for NASA space missions. Though faded with age, this slide preserves a personal, firsthand image of one of the Navy's storied carriers at rest between operations. Project: 218511
