Petrof Bay (CVE-80) work to clear the tail of a wrecked FM-2 Wildcat fighter (Bureau Number 57002) that came to rest in one of the ship's 20mm gun sponsons following a flight deck accident on December 18, 1944. Landing mishaps sent damaged aircraft careening into every corner of a carrier's deck, including its anti-aircraft gun positions, requiring quick recovery work by the crew. Project: 218490
