Six real-photo postcards mounted on an album page document catastrophic destruction in a Japanese city, with only scattered reinforced-concrete buildings left standing amid vast fields of rubble. The scope of devastation and the surviving building types are most consistent with the aftermath of the 1923 Great Kanto Earthquake and its accompanying fires, which destroyed much of Tokyo and Yokohama. A later Bank of America return-mail envelope accompanying the page suggests the images were preserved and circulated by a private collector years afterward. Project: 218485
