U.S. Navy Engineering Personnel Operating Engine Order Telegraph Aboard Escort Carrier, World War II
Two U.S. Navy crewmen work at an engine order telegraph station deep within a warship's engineering spaces during World War II. The enlisted sailor at left operates overhead control linkage while an officer records observations on a clipboard. The telegraph dial between them relayed speed and direction commands from the bridge to the engine room, one of many critical communication links that kept a ship's propulsion responsive to the demands of combat maneuvering.
