Aero Spacelines Guppy-Series Outsize Cargo Aircraft on Approach
This photograph shows an Aero Spacelines Guppy-series transport, a radically modified Boeing 377 Stratocruiser/C-97 airframe fitted with an enormously enlarged fuselage to carry outsized cargo. Developed in the early 1960s, these aircraft became famous for ferrying Saturn rocket stages for NASA's Apollo program. The visible piston radial engines point to an early Guppy variant, likely the original 'Pregnant Guppy' or the first-generation piston 'Super Guppy,' photographed here on approach or departure at a commercial airfield.
