This photograph shows a Boeing C-97 Stratofreighter, part of a family of aircraft that also included the KC-97 Stratotanker, parked on a U.S. Air Force ramp. Developed from the B-29/B-50 Superfortress bomber lineage, the C-97 series served from the late 1940s through the 1970s as a vital long-range cargo transport and, in its tanker variant, as the primary aerial refueling aircraft supporting Strategic Air Command bomber operations during the early Cold War.
