This photograph shows a Douglas C-124 Globemaster II, tail number 1113, in flight over mountainous terrain. Entering service in 1950, the C-124 was the largest and most capable heavy-lift transport of its era, able to carry tanks, artillery pieces, and hundreds of fully equipped troops through its distinctive clamshell nose doors.
