Boeing B-50/KB-50 Superfortress, Serial 0-60008, U.S. Air Force Ramp View

This photograph depicts a Boeing B-50-series Superfortress, tail number 0-60008, of the United States Air Force. Developed from the World War II-era B-29, the B-50 featured more powerful engines and structural improvements. Many airframes, including likely this one, were later converted to KB-50J aerial refueling tankers, distinguishable by auxiliary jet pods added to the outer wings to boost speed for rendezvous with jet-powered fighters and bombers. Aircraft of this type served as vital aerial refueling platforms during the early Cold War, extending the range of U.S. tactical air forces. Project: 218468
