Boeing C-97/KC-97 Stratofreighter, USAF Serial 22762 — Starboard Profile, Airfield Ramp
A Boeing C-97/KC-97 Stratofreighter of the United States Air Force sits on the ramp at an airfield, its distinctive 'double-bubble' fuselage and four radial piston engines clearly visible. Developed from the B-29/B-50 bomber lineage, this large transport family served the USAF from the late 1940s through the 1960s, hauling cargo and troops, and, in its KC-97 tanker configuration, refueling Strategic Air Command's early jet bombers before jet-powered tankers took over the mission.
