WWII Allied Surrender/Safe Conduct Leaflet, USS Petrof Bay (CVE-80) Collection
This Allied 'safe conduct' leaflet, preserved in the USS Petrof Bay (CVE-80) collection, was designed to encourage Japanese and Korean soldiers and civilians in the Pacific to surrender. Printed with an English-language guarantee for American troops and translated instructions for those surrendering, such leaflets were part of a wide-reaching Allied psychological warfare campaign carried aboard aircraft carriers and dropped over enemy-held territory in the final years of World War II.
