This photograph from the 11th Armored Division's WWII archive shows a large river barge stranded on a German riverbank, likely photographed during the division's advance through Germany and Austria in the spring of 1945. The 'Thunderbolt' Division crossed numerous rivers and canals during its final campaign, and scenes of abandoned or scuttled waterway craft were commonly documented by soldiers as evidence of the disruption wrought on Germany's transportation infrastructure in the war's closing months.
