Aerial Reconnaissance View of Bomb-Damaged Canal Dockyards, Germany, 1945

This aerial reconnaissance photograph documents the devastating effect of Allied strategic bombing on a German canal dockyard, with warehouse roofs collapsed and a vessel capsized in the waterway. Images such as this were used by intelligence officers to assess damage to enemy industrial and transportation infrastructure as Allied ground forces, including the 11th Armored Division, advanced through Germany in 1945.
