Ruins of Old Spanish Colonial Church, Panama Canal Zone, WWII Era

Servicemen stationed in the Panama Canal Zone during World War II often visited the historic ruins of Panama Viejo, the original Spanish colonial city founded in 1519 and destroyed in 1671. This photograph, preserved in a wartime photo album, captures the jungle-reclaimed stone archway of one of the old church ruins - a popular sightseeing stop during off-duty hours in the Canal Zone.
