German Field Artillery Team with Horse-Drawn Limber and Gun Carriage, Early WWI
A German field artillery team poses with its horse-drawn limber and gun carriage outside a barracks building. The soldiers' leather Pickelhaube helmets date this photograph to the early years of the First World War, before the steel Stahlhelm replaced them in 1916. Horse teams like this one were the backbone of mobile field artillery, hauling guns and ammunition across the battlefields of the Western and Eastern Fronts. Project: 218439
