The Snapshots in Time Collection
Hydroelectric Dam and Spillway, European Theater of Operations, World War II
A soldier of the 44th Infantry Division photographed this hydroelectric dam while advancing through the European Theater in 1944-1945. Dams, bridges, and other river crossings were of critical tactical importance during the campaign through eastern France and into Germany, and were frequently documented by soldiers both for their engineering interest and strategic significance.
