Boeing B-17 Flying Fortress on the Ramp, Kessler Field, 1946
This 1946 photograph shows a Boeing B-17 Flying Fortress parked on the ramp at Kessler Field, Mississippi, part of a collection of negatives associated with a visit by General Dwight D. Eisenhower. Though the B-17 is best remembered for its role in the strategic bombing campaign over Europe, many remained in service with the Army Air Forces in the immediate post-war years for training and transport duties at stateside installations like Kessler Field.
