The Snapshots in Time Collection
Burma Hillside Terraces and Animal Study, CBI Theater
This contact print from a WWII China-Burma-India theater archive pairs two informal snapshots: a hillside of terraced fields being crossed by a small group of figures, and a close portrait of a young animal, possibly a mascot kept by Allied troops stationed in the region. Personal photographs like these, taken alongside official reconnaissance and combat images, offer a glimpse into daily life and morale-building customs among servicemen in the Burma campaign.
