Winding Mountain Road Through Rugged Terrain, China-Burma-India Theater, WWII
This photograph captures a winding mountain road carved into rugged terrain, characteristic of the vital overland supply routes of the China-Burma-India Theater during World War II. Roads such as the Burma Road and the Ledo (Stilwell) Road were engineering feats that allowed Allied forces to move troops and supplies through extremely difficult mountainous country to support the war effort against Japan in Asia.
