Aerial reconnaissance photograph of Omura, Nagasaki Prefecture, taken 15 September 1945, shortly after Japan's formal surrender. Omura was home to a major Imperial Japanese Navy air base and aircraft production facility during the war. Reconnaissance imagery such as this supported American assessment and mapping of former Japanese military infrastructure in the earliest weeks of the occupation. Project: 218373
