USS North Carolina (BB-55) at Pearl Harbor, October 1945
The battleship USS North Carolina (BB-55) rests at anchor in Pearl Harbor in October 1945, just weeks after Japan's surrender ended World War II. Two OS2U Kingfisher floatplanes sit on her stern catapults beneath the recovery crane. As one of the first modern American fast battleships, North Carolina served throughout the Pacific War escorting carriers and providing shore bombardment support. Project: 218349
