Bull with Banderillas Confronting Matador Near the Barrera, Mexico City Bullring, 1949
This photograph shows the banderillas stage of a 1949 bullfight in Mexico City, in which barbed decorated sticks have been placed in the bull's shoulders to prepare it for the final act. A matador engages the animal near the barrera as arena staff and officials look on. The image, with its dense advertising and capacity crowd, is part of a personal photo album documenting General Jonathan M. Wainwright's postwar travels. Project: 218339
