Matador Performing a Muleta Pass in the Faena, Mexico City Bullring, 1949
This photograph captures the faena, the final and most celebrated stage of a Mexican bullfight, in which a matador working alone with the muleta performs a series of controlled passes with the bull. Photographed in 1949 at a major arena in Mexico City, the image is part of a personal album documenting General Jonathan M. Wainwright's travels in the years following his release as a Japanese prisoner of war. Project: 218339
