Wrecked Rail Cars at Roseville Yard Following 1973 Munitions Train Explosion
This photograph, dated August 1973, documents the lingering wreckage of the Roseville Yard disaster, in which a Southern Pacific freight train carrying bombs destined for the Vietnam War exploded on April 28, 1973, in Roseville, California. The blast destroyed rail cars and equipment across the yard, some of which remained as visible wreckage months later. Project: 218336
