This well-traveled envelope, addressed to Marine 1st Lt. E. P. 'Pat' McAleer, was forwarded through no fewer than five duty stations in early 1945, from Cherry Point, North Carolina, to Quantico, Virginia, to VMF-441 of Marine Aircraft Group 31, and finally to a Fleet Post Office and Miramar, California. The overlapping stamps and handwritten corrections vividly illustrate the challenge of keeping mail moving with a Marine aviator during wartime transfers. Project: 218326
