This finely carved double-effigy headstone commemorates John Ferguson, Esq. (d. 1769) and his wife Jane (d. 1774), both age 39 at death, and bears a poignant mourning verse -- a striking example of 18th-century New England funerary art. Photographed during the World War II period. Project: 218317
