Official U.S. Navy photographs from the escort carrier USS Petrof Bay (CVE-80) capture flight deck life during the Second World War, from crews spotting fighters by hand to crash-damaged aircraft cleared away by mobile crane. Together with a Bureau of Aeronautics restriction stamp on one verso, they document the tight margins and constant hazards of escort carrier aviation.
