Pilot in Cockpit of Single-Engine Aircraft No. 459, Snow-Covered Airfield, WWII/Post-War Era

This photograph, from the Pat McAleer collection, shows a smiling pilot in the cockpit of a single-engine military aircraft marked '459,' parked on a snow-covered airfield. The star-and-bar national insignia dates the image to 1943 or later, and the pilot's fleece-lined jacket and flying helmet reflect standard cold-weather flight gear used by American aviators during World War II and the years immediately following.
