The Snapshots in Time Collection
Album Page: Civilian Pilot Training Class Group Portrait (Sept. 8, 1942) and Liaison Aircraft Crew Photo, with Annotation Noting a Member Later Killed Flying a P-38
This album page preserves two snapshots from a personal WWII-era photograph collection. The top image documents a Civilian Pilot Training (CPT) class photographed on September 8, 1942, in front of a light training monoplane. A handwritten note identifies one class member, "Ery/nn Sharp," as later killed while flying a P-38 Lightning, a somber reminder that many civilian trainees of this era went on to fly and die in combat. The lower photograph shows three airmen in sun helmets before a liaison aircraft at a desert airfield, reflecting the broader wartime training and support network these photographs document.
