Sled Dog Team and Handler on the Snowfield at Thule Air Base, Greenland, c. 1950-1955
A dog sled team is led across the snow at Thule Air Base, Greenland, sometime between 1950 and 1955. In the earliest years of this remote Arctic installation, sled dogs supplemented mechanized transport for moving personnel and light cargo across the base before extensive road networks were completed. Fuel drums and supply crates in the background reflect the constant logistical challenge of sustaining operations above the Arctic Circle during the early Cold War. Project: 218295
