The Snapshots in Time Collection
U.S. Serviceman Viewing a Row of Stone Cottages in an English Village
This snapshot, preserved in a Signal Corps soldier's personal photo album, shows an American serviceman pausing along a lane in an English village lined with traditional stone cottages. The steep stone-tile roofs, dormer windows, and clustered chimneys are typical of the Cotswolds region of Gloucestershire, and the scene closely resembles the celebrated Arlington Row in Bibury, a stop frequently photographed by American troops stationed in or passing through England during the Second World War.
