The Snapshots in Time Collection

Gallery: LETTER 4

Private Willis W. Wagener wrote to his mother on June 20, 1918, describing camp life, long-awaited mail, and duties from kitchen police to stevedore work. Accompanying pages note a money draft, scarce newspapers, an anticipated pass into a French town, and cautious optimism about the Austrian offensive in Italy, all carried home in a censored 30th Engineers envelope.
