Handwritten WWI Letter Page - Trench Relief and German Signal Flares (Letter 5, Page G)
A page from a World War I soldier's letter home describes his first night in the front-line trenches - the eerie stillness of shell-torn ground, a column of troops filing silently in to relieve their comrades, and German flares lighting the sky to guide night-flying aircraft. Portions of the text have been struck through, likely a trace of wartime censorship applied before the letter reached its recipient. Project: 218272
