WWI American Y.M.C.A. A.E.F. Letterhead – Handwritten Letter Page, November 1918

Handwritten on official American Y.M.C.A. stationery issued to troops of the American Expeditionary Forces, this letter page dates to late November 1918, days after the Armistice ended World War I. The soldier-author, writing home, describes the first units being sent back to the United States from Liverpool, England, and recalls his own unit's arrival in France the previous April via Southampton and Le Havre. Such Y.M.C.A. letterhead was distributed freely to American servicemen in France as part of the organization's extensive welfare and morale program supporting the AEF. Project: 218262
