Letter 16, written August 30, 1918 on American Y.M.C.A. stationery by Pvt. Willis W. Wagener of the 1st Gas Regiment in France, describing dump guard duty and improvements to camp. He records German artillery fire, enemy reconnaissance flights, and an air battle in which anti-aircraft guns drive attackers off the American observation balloons.
