This handwritten note, found on the back of a photograph in a postwar Hiroshima album, identifies the pictured structure as one of the few concrete buildings left standing after the atomic bombing of August 6, 1945. Reinforced-concrete construction proved far more resistant to the blast and firestorm than the wood-frame buildings that made up most of the city, a fact this simple annotation captures directly.
