Devastated Cemetery with Stripped Tree and Surviving Building, Hiroshima

This photograph shows a traditional Japanese cemetery in Hiroshima following the atomic bombing of August 6, 1945. While many of the stone grave markers withstood the blast, a large tree at the center of the scene was stripped entirely bare by the explosion's intense heat and force. A surviving reinforced-concrete building stands nearby, illustrating the stark contrast between structures resilient enough to endure the blast and the widespread devastation surrounding them.
