Aerial View of the Bomb-Damaged Obersalzberg Compound from the Eagle's Nest, Germany, 1945

Viewed from high on the mountain near the Eagle's Nest, this panorama looks down over the Obersalzberg valley near Berchtesgaden, Germany. The scarred clearing visible on the hillside marks the ruins of the Nazi leadership compound, including Hitler's Berghof, heavily damaged by an RAF bombing raid in April 1945 shortly before American forces, including the 101st Airborne Division, arrived in the area.
