U.S. Army Air Forces C-47 Skytrain in Flight, Invasion Stripes Visible, WWII European Theater

A U.S. Army Air Forces transport aircraft, likely a C-47 Skytrain, banks in flight overhead. The black-and-white 'invasion stripes' painted on the wings and fuselage were applied to all Allied tactical aircraft starting in June 1944 to reduce the risk of friendly-fire losses during the Normandy invasion and subsequent large-scale airborne operations in which the 101st Airborne Division participated.
