Bomb-Damaged Village in a Valley Beneath Hills, WWII European Theater
This photograph shows a European village severely damaged by artillery or aerial bombardment during World War II, its houses reduced to shells with exposed roof framing amid a valley surrounded by hills. Such destruction was common in towns caught in the path of the fighting as the 101st Airborne Division and other Allied units advanced through contested territory in France, Belgium, and Germany.
