Wrecked Japanese Twin-Engine Aircraft, Tail Code "7-7", Ie Shima Airfield
The wrecked fuselage of a Japanese twin-engine aircraft lies abandoned on Ie Shima airfield, its engines and much of its wing structure already stripped away. The tail code "7-7" and red Hinomaru insignia remain visible. Photographs like this one, taken by members of the 345th Bomber Group stationed on Ie Shima in 1945, document the aftermath of the island's capture and the wreckage of Japanese air power left behind.
