A 'Domain of the Golden Dragon' certificate, a popular novelty document (copyright 1944, Lloyd Wofford, San Francisco) presented to U.S. servicemen crossing the International Date Line aboard ship during World War II. Elaborately illustrated with dragons and mermaids, such keepsakes commemorated the milestone with tongue-in-cheek naval ceremony and were often preserved alongside photographs and other mementos from Pacific deployments, such as this album from the 345th Bomber Group's time on Ie Shima.
