Before the 345th Bombardment Group reached its forward base on Ie Shima, its airmen lived the routines seen here: rows of wooden barracks, mass calisthenics, formations with bedrolls and field gear, and leave-day clowning outside a stateside post office. Kept in a personal album, these candid frames preserve the training-camp life that official photography rarely recorded.
