Thousands of surplus Mitchells were sold to private owners following World War II, many repainted and modified to serve as fast executive transports, aerial survey aircraft, or - as suggested by the painted advertisement on this example's nose - traveling promotional 'flying billboards' for touring companies during the 1940s and 1950s.
