This captured Messerschmitt Bf 108 "Taifun" still wears its original Luftwaffe swastika and Balkenkreuz insignia alongside the U.S. Army Air Forces Foreign Evaluation code "FE-4610," applied after the aircraft was brought to the United States for technical assessment. Originally designed as a fast, four-seat touring and liaison monoplane — and used to trial wing features later adopted on the Bf 109 fighter — Bf 108s were among many German aircraft studied by U.S. Air Technical Service Command evaluators at Wright Field, Ohio, during and after World War II. These evaluations helped American engineers and pilots understand enemy aircraft design, construction, and performance in direct comparison with Allied types. Project: 218215
