North American XFJ-1 Fury Prototype Jet Fighter, Port Side View, 21 August 1946

The North American XFJ-1 Fury, photographed here on 21 August 1946, was among the U.S. Navy's first carrier-based jet fighter prototypes developed in the immediate aftermath of World War II. This straight-wing design would enter limited production as the FJ-1 Fury before evolving into the swept-wing F-86 Sabre lineage that would define American jet fighter design for a generation.
