Two 1918 letters from Private Willis W. Wagener of Company B, 30th Engineers, written from France with the American Expeditionary Forces. Describing worn overseas caps, relaxed uniform rules, and extra duties writing to the regimental chaplain, they capture an ordinary soldier's optimism as the tide of the First World War turned.
