Early Curtiss P-40 Pursuit Aircraft, Bare Metal Finish with Pre-War Rudder Stripes
This official photograph documents an early Curtiss P-40 pursuit aircraft in its original bare-aluminum finish with pre-war Army Air Corps rudder stripes, dating the image to roughly 1939-1940, just before the type entered widespread combat service. The P-40 would go on to become one of the most widely produced American fighters of World War II, famously flown by the Flying Tigers in China and Burma. Project: 218191
