This album page preserves two candid snapshots from a naval aviator's World War II service in the Pacific. In the upper photograph, a young airman identified only as 'Ross' leans from the cockpit of a single-engine military aircraft on Kwajalein Atoll, a Marshall Islands base seized by U.S. forces in early 1944 and quickly developed into a major air and logistics hub for the drive across the Central Pacific. The lower photograph shows a group of uniformed personnel gathered casually on the wing of aircraft No. 461.
